How Long Does it Take to Move Your Boiler to a Different Room?

In this guide, we will be explaining how long it takes to install your new combi, system or regular boiler in a different location to your existing one.

How Long Does it Take To Relocate a Straight Swap Combi Boiler?

One to One and a Half Days

Replacing an old combi boiler with a new combi boiler in the same location is the simplest and quickest job for an installer to do and will take them around 4-6 hours to complete.

However, to have the new combi moved to another room within the property will add on approximately another half a day’s work, so you could be looking at the job taking between a full day or a day and a half. All of this will be explained to you during our online quote process.

During this time, the gas-safe engineer will remove the old boiler from its old location and remove the old flue. They will then install the new boiler in your preferred location as well as the necessary pipes and a new flue.

Once the new boiler is fully installed, the engineer will give it a free chemical flush (not to be confused with a ‘power flush’) and fit an iHeat thermostat, which they will explain how to use. 

After the job is done, they will tidy any mess and dispose of the old boiler as well as the new boiler’s packaging.

How Long Does it Take to Relocate a Combi Boiler When Switching from a Regular Boiler?

Up to 2.5 Days

If you currently have a regular boiler and are looking to have it converted to a combi boiler but want it moved to a different location, you should expect this to take up to two and a half days.

The reason a regular to combi swap takes  longer than a like-for-like swap is due to the extra work required, including removing the water tank that will no longer be required and any new pipework.

The installers must also gain access to the heating system which may mean that floorboards need to be lifted and any corrective work must be done afterwards. 

This work alone takes two days to complete and moving it will add on up to a half a day’s work.

How Long Does it Take to Relocate a Straight Swap Regular Boiler?

Up to 1.5 days

Replacing an old regular boiler with a new regular boiler in the same location takes a full day’s work to complete assuming everything goes smoothly.

However, to have the new regular boiler moved will add on another half a day’s work, so you should expect the job to take a day and a half. 

It’s worth noting that the feed and expansion tank must be kept in the attic in order for the boiler to continue functioning properly.

How Long Does it Take to Relocate a Combi Boiler When Switching from a System Boiler?

How Long Does it Take to Replace a Back Boiler with a New Combi Boiler?

Up to 2 Days

If you currently have a back boiler and are looking to convert to a combi boiler, you should expect this to take up to two days due to all of the extra work required. 

With any back boiler to combi boiler replacement,  your new boiler will need to be relocated to a different place in the house.

This could be inside a kitchen cupboard, in an airing cupboard, utility room etc…

Secondly, all boilers need a flue or some way to ventilate harmful gases such as carbon monoxide. 

Back boilers vent these gases directly up a chimney, whereas a combi boiler can vent in both horizontal and vertical directions. This means that you’ll need a new regular flue from the new location of the boiler.

For example, some may feel that a boiler in their kitchen cupboard takes up too much space that could otherwise be used for storage.
