The Alpha E-Tec is one of our best combination boilers thanks to its great affordability without compromising on quality. The E-Tec is also Alpha’s smallest model yet, making it ideal for small and medium sized homes and fitting in standard kitchen cupboards.
The E-Tec is ideal for small and medium sized homes. The entire E-Tec range features brand new stainless steel heat exchangers and zinc plated expansion vessels, making them highly robust, more corrosion resistant and much longer lasting. Taking these extra steps to maximise the longevity of your boiler life is what makes this range stand out against its competitors, who mostly use aluminium heat exchangers.
The E-Tec also has a high-efficiency pump which helps to deliver impressive hot water flow ratings between 12.4 (28kW) and 14.1 (33kW) litres of hot water per minute and the single electrode drive charge is very easy to access, meaning your Alpha combi boiler will be easy to control and manage after installation.
Here are some of the features of the Alpha E-Tec boiler:
Stainless steel heat exchanger
High efficiency pump and hydroblock assembly
Easy-access dry-change NTCs
Combined condensate and pressure relief valve connection
Zinc plated expansion vessel to prevent corrosion
Rated A (89%) for energy efficiency
W 440mm, D 255mm, H 712mm
10 Year Warranty with iHeat
Two available outputs: Alpha E-Tec 28kW, Alpha E-Tec 33kW
12.4-14.1 litres/minute
The E-Tec Plus is similar to the E-Tec but is physically larger in size and has a few extra benefits, such as copper pipe tails with isolation valves, an integrated filling loop and a control panel and bottom cover. They’re also a fair bit more efficient than the standard E-Tec, with an A Rating of 93%, helping you to make significant savings on your home heating bills.
It is available in 3 different sizes, 28kW, 33kW and 38kW, making it ideal for medium-larger sized homes thanks to the additional power output option, delivering impressive hot water flow rates between 12.1 and 15.9 litre/min.
This means that it is more than equipped to keep your home at the right temperature all year long without costing you an arm and a leg to do so thanks to its low purchase price and high efficiency ratings.

If you’re looking for a high quality boiler for an affordable price then a model from the E-Tec range is certainly a great place to look. Unsure of which you should opt for between the two? To put it simply, the E-Tec Plus is very similar to the E-Tec bar a few additional features such as the control panel and bottom cover.
Realistically speaking, it's unlikely you’d notice the difference enough to spend an extra few hundred pounds, so we would recommend the standard Alpha E-Tec model, unless of course you require the higher power output (38kW) for your home.

Boilers can be a daunting purchase for many people as they’re an appliance with a lot of responsibility, providing heat for you and your family is something you want to get right. Boilers aren’t exactly a quickly disposable item either, potentially lasting you a decade.
Effectively, new boiler cost can be split into two segments: the first is the actual boiler itself (unit price), and the second is the cost of the boiler being installed (set up) in your property by an expert engineer.
Here at iHeat, we want to remove all of this undue stress and make the decision making process of upgrading to a new central heating system, as easy as possible.
Boiler costs can vary depending on a number of factors including their brand, model, fuel, output, warranty, labour and installation type. Typically a new boiler will cost between £1,845 and £3,500, below is a list of average boiler installations offered by iHeat (guide only).
Installation Type | Price (inc VAT)
Combi to combi swap | £1,845
System to combi conversion | £2,499
New boiler install | £2,899
Back boiler to a combi | £3,299
System to system | £1,945 |
The Alpha E-TEC 28 is known for its high efficiency, with an ERP (Energy-related Products Directive) rating of 'A' for both heating and hot water. This combi boiler model operates with an efficiency level of over 90%, making it a cost-effective and environmentally friendly option for home heating and hot water supply.
Alpha and Worcester Bosch are both reputable boiler manufacturers, but they cater to different segments of the market:
Alpha Heating Innovation, a part of the Immergas Group, manufactures Alpha boilers. Immergas has been a leading company in the heating industry for over 50 years, based in Italy but with a significant presence in the UK and other countries, reflecting a strong reputation for quality and innovation in heating solutions.
Alpha boilers are generally not known for being noisy and are designed to operate quietly. However, like any mechanical system, individual experiences may vary. Factors that could affect noise levels include the installation location, system setup, and maintenance. Ensuring your boiler is correctly installed and regularly serviced can help minimize operational noise.
While perceptions of reliability can vary, brands like Worcester Bosch, Viessmann, and Vaillant are frequently cited as some of the most reliable boiler brands on the market. These manufacturers are known for their high-quality construction, innovation, and customer service, often leading in consumer satisfaction and reliability surveys.
Plumbers typically recommend brands known for reliability, ease of installation and maintenance, and excellent manufacturer support. Popular choices among plumbers often include:
