Although a boiler service may seem like an unnecessary extra cost each year, it really is an important measure to ensure that your boiler is working safely and efficiently to increase the lifespan of your boiler, in turn saving you money in the long run.

By having your boiler serviced, any small issues can be identified and fixed, before they turn into a big expensive problem that could potentially put you or your family at risk, such as Carbon Monoxide poisoning.

It is also worth noting that many boiler warranties become invalid unless you can prove you have had an annual boiler service.

What does a Boiler Service involve?

  • The boiler is fired to identify any faults

  • Flue terminals and internal flue compartments are checked and sealed properly

  • Using a flue gas analyser, the burner is checked to make sure it’s burning efficiently

  • Boiler parts are cleaned if necessary

  • Gas tightness test is conducted to ensure there are no gas leaks

  • Boiler casing is checked to make sure it's sealed properly

When should I get my boiler serviced?

Contrary to common misconception, the best time to have your boiler serviced is actually during the summer months as once winter approaches, so do the boiler breakdowns.

Heating engineers across the country will be fully booked by callouts and you will likely have to wait much longer to get your heating and hot water up and running again ,whereas in summertime, you can schedule your service for when is best for you and you won’t be waiting in the cold.

What happens if I don't get my boiler serviced?

  1. Death. Each year around 60 people die in the UK as a result of Carbon Monoxide poisoning due to its ability to go undetected. A boiler service can identify a Carbon Monoxide leak and put a stop to it.

  2. Broken boiler. Unidentified small problems eventually lead to much bigger ones which either cost a lot of money or require the boiler to be replaced entirely which can be very expensive.
