In this blog we’ll be taking a look at the Vaillant combi boiler range, including some of their key benefits.
Vaillant is a renowned international boiler manufacturer with over 140 years of heritage, beginning in Germany in 1874.
Vaillant is still operating successfully around the world today as one of Europe's most prominent family businesses, constantly striving to combine energy efficiency with heating functionality in their products.
Vaillant boilers are built to be environmentally friendly, with sustainability being a key aspect of their ethos and product line. They are committed to contributing to climate protection targets and are recognised as one of the world's leading manufacturers of eco-friendly heating and cooling technology.
By installing one of Vaillant's high-efficiency boilers, customers can save more than 30% energy and reduce CO2 emissions by a further 30%.
The ecoTEC range of boilers is at the forefront of their green revolution, offering premium, powerful, and environmentally conscious heating solutions that are designed to last and provide a good return on investment.
A combi (combination) boiler is a type of domestic boiler that ‘combines’ a home’s central heating and hot water production into one succinct unit.
A combi takes water directly from the mains and heats it upon usage. After detecting a hot water request, the combi begins to burn gas in a combustion chamber.
The hot gases rise and move through a series of pipes and into a component called a heat exchanger. The hot gas running through the exchanger then heats the surrounding cold water.
In a conventional boiler system, this process is done according to a programme and the water is stored in a separate cylinder until it’s needed.
A combi only starts this cycle upon request (initiating the heating or turning on a hot water outlet), therefore the hot water is almost instant.
Vaillant’s ‘premium combination boiler’, the ecoTEC Exclusive Green IQ is a range topping boiler in terms of performance, control and efficiency. This top notch combi is fully compatible with vSMART, Vaillant’s heating control app, as well as being Quiet Mark approved for its low function volume.
The Green IQ hallmark means this combi is not only extremely efficient, but also capable of adaptive heating, meaning no heat or money will ever go to waste.

Combi boilers offer several advantages over traditional boilers and water storage tanks. Firstly, they are compact and can perform the functions of two appliances, taking up minimal storage space.
In fact, they can fit easily into a standard kitchen cupboard, seamlessly blending in with the decor.
Moreover, combi boilers take their water supply directly from the mains, resulting in a substantial flow pressure that ensures rapid and uninterrupted hot water supply. They do not rely on gravity to collect water, which can lead to pooling or slow heating speeds in conventional boilers.
Combi boilers can be remotely controlled by technology such as smart thermostats or smartphone apps, providing convenience and peace of mind to homeowners.
The water produced by combi boilers is clean and safe to drink, as it has not been stored in a tank for long periods, reducing the likelihood of contamination.
Furthermore, combi boilers are cheap to run as gas, their preferred fuel, is cost-effective and energy-efficient. Most modern combi boilers have been designed to minimise sound output, making them quieter than traditional boilers.
They are also versatile, as they can run on a variety of fuels and are abundant in terms of
replacement part availability, ensuring quick and affordable repairs when needed.
As a general rule of thumb, any boiler 15 years or older should be replaced. In the time elapsed since the boilers installation the constant advancement in modern technology means upgrading to a newer boiler will work out more efficient, cheaper and safer.
Any boiler with signs of serious degradation, function failure or that has been ‘condemned’ by an expert heating engineer must be immediately disconnected and replaced for safety reasons as well as heating convenience.
Vaillant combi boilers cost between £2,445-£4,000 depending on the size and model of boiler you select to heat your home (boiler and installation).
Being a premium boiler brand, with a new Vaillant combi you get what you pay for, an excellent product that from its efficient performance can save you money in the long run.
Opting for a potentially cheaper boiler may result in you having to cover replacement or repair costs due to product inferiority, budget boilers produce budget performances and can leave you out of pocket when they let you down.
iHeat strives to simplify the process of obtaining a quote and installing a new Vaillant boiler. That's why we offer free, fixed-price quotes that can be generated in just 60 seconds.
Our goal is to make the entire process as easy and hassle-free as possible for our customers.
The best Vaillant combi boiler often depends on your specific heating and hot water needs, as well as the size of your property. However, the Vaillant ecoTEC Plus combi boiler is highly regarded for its efficiency, reliability, and performance. It offers a range of power outputs to suit different home sizes and comes with features like a stainless steel heat exchanger and Quiet Mark accreditation, making it one of the quietest boilers in the market.
The lifespan of a Vaillant boiler typically ranges between 15 to 20 years, with proper installation and regular maintenance. Regular servicing can help ensure that the boiler operates efficiently and can identify potential issues before they lead to significant damage, extending the unit's lifespan.
Determining the best combi boiler on the market involves considering various factors, including efficiency, reliability, features, and value for money. Models from Vaillant, Worcester Bosch, and Viessmann are often rated highly. Specifically, the Worcester Bosch Greenstar i Series, Vaillant ecoTEC Plus, and Viessmann Vitodens 100-W are frequently recommended for their performance and customer satisfaction.
As of the latest information available up to April 2023, combi boilers are not being phased out. However, there is a push towards more environmentally friendly heating systems, such as heat pumps, as part of efforts to reduce carbon emissions. Future regulations may affect the types of boilers and heating systems that can be installed, focusing on energy efficiency and low-carbon technologies.
In the UK, new gas boilers can still be installed after 2025, but there are plans to phase out the installation of gas and oil boilers in new-build homes by 2025 as part of the Future Homes Standard. This initiative aims to ensure new homes are fitted with low-carbon heating systems. Existing homes are not currently affected by this standard, but homeowners are encouraged to consider more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly heating options.
Replacing a 10-year-old combi boiler might be worth considering if it's inefficient, prone to breakdowns, or unable to meet your heating and hot water needs effectively. Modern boilers are more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. If your current boiler is still functioning well and efficiently, it may not be necessary to replace it immediately, but upgrading can offer long-term savings and improved performance.
The cost to replace an old boiler with a new combi boiler in the UK can vary widely, typically ranging from £2,500 to £4,500, including installation. The price depends on various factors, such as the complexity of the installation, the model of the combi boiler chosen, and any necessary system upgrades or adjustments. It's advisable to get multiple quotes from qualified installers to ensure you get the best price and service for your specific needs.
