An air source heat pump (also known as an air to water pump) is a variety of renewable energy technology that takes heat from the air outside of a property (regardless of the temperature) and uses it to heat water and provide the central heating within the property.
Heat pumps work by absorbing and converting heat from the air into a fluid, this fluid is then passed through a heat exchanger before being deposited in the heat pump where its temperature is raised and the resulting thermal energy is transferred to the property’s water.
Very efficient, especially compared to older, antiquated boiler models
No risk of carbon monoxide poisoning
Long life span
Potential for a considerable amount of savings in the long run
As well as general central heating involving radiators around the home, and a direct flow of hot water from outlets such as taps/showers, heat pumps can be advantageous when paired with underfloor heating systems, keeping you nice and warm.
Air source heat pumps perform best when heating water at lower temperatures, the type of temperatures that under floor heating systems tend to operate at, while still emitting the same heat as a traditional radiator, making them perfect for an underfloor heating system.
In terms of efficiency this hitachi model is the king of air source heat pumps with a reported 500% energy efficiency percentage. Despite its relatively low 11kW output when compared to some other models, this is still an ample output for most homes, and is hugely outweighed by the A+++ efficiency rating which could save you as much as 60% on your heating bills.
